CSA 2010 Week 1

As part of our effort to eat better this year, the BF and I have joined a CSA. I chose Laughing Stock Farm out of Freeport for the following reasons: 1. the awesome name, 2. the awesome veggie list and 3. the Portland pick up location.

The first pick up was Wednesday night. It's still early in the season, so the load was light, but I came away with harukai turnips, some lovely yellow chard, a head of lettuce, and some mesclun mix. We've been enjoying the lettuce (BF's comment was: "If all we get is salads that taste this good all summer, I'll be happy), and I used the turnips in a saute last night. They were actually pretty good, but I think I liked the greens even better. We've already decided that if we get more, we're going to try roasting them.

So, so far, so good. I'm definitely looking forward to when production starts to ramp up later in the season.

Ohh, nice! I wish we had an affordable CSA around here, as I fail at growing anything other than cherry tomatoes!!

I was a little leery of the cost at first, but then I sat down and really thought about what I spend on produce every month, and it ended up being a lot more reasonable than I thought (though I wouldn't have minded a slightly more spread out payment plan...)
