I really wish I’d know about Marion Zimmer Bradley’s various short story anthologies back when they were being published. I was in my teens at the time, but she usually had at least one teen in each anthology, and my head is often full of might have beens when I read these books now. At the very least, I wonder what stories I might have come up with to try and submit to one of the anthologies.
I picked this one up used because it has a Tarma and Kethry story from Mercedes Lackey in it. Interestingly, this turned out to be a collaborative story that while interesting, which definitely not one of my favorite stories in the anthology.
Per usual, my favorites were done by the more established authors. Deborah Wheeler’s “Silverblade” and Diana Paxson’s “Stone Spirit” were both extremely satisfying stories, for being in a short form.
I really enjoy having these books around, as it’s easy to pick it up and put it back down again between other books. I really need to remember to see what else is out there currently being published like these. I know Mercedes Lackey has Valdemar anthologies, but while I am interesting in reading those, I’d also like to find something that includes stories set in an infinite number of worlds, instead of just one.
