Distraction of the Day - Eastern Promenade, Portland
I reached my tolerance for staying indoors around two this afternoon. (I have asthma, so I try to take it easy when the air is this obviously bad.) The plan was to head to Mackworth Island in Falmouth, but sadly, when I got there, the lot was full. So, figuring that any sea breeze at this point was a good sea breeze, I headed back into Portland, and to the Eastern Prom. At least I got a view of the islands, even if it is hazy as anything out there.
I was rather impressed to see that the beach roses are still blooming, though the blossoms are surrounded by a sea of rose hips, which in and of itself is pretty cool.
And last, but not least, on the way back to my car, I caught sight of this little guy. He was about five feet up on this plant, in the middle of a rose thicket. I'm astounded he got up that far, and that he was managing to stay there, as the leaf he was on was swinging quite a bit in the breeze.
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I'm actually looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. At least I'll be in climate control. And surely Labor Day weekend will be less humid. I seriously hope so.
